No doubt about it....

As I sat here and blogged, Aidan sat next to me playing with his toys. Then I noticed he had stole one of my Red Vines. He smiled and enjoyed every minute of it. So no doubt about it he is my son. I love Red Vines and by the looks of the pictures he does too. And he is ready for Redfish and all the Red Vines he can eat! :)

My version of the last week...

This last week has been busy busy and crazy. It is finally winding down so I thought I would take a minute a let everyone know what we did. Where to start...

Sunday 21st. We had a Christmas party at Suzie's house. We were able to eat and visit with family. We made some Broccoli Cheese soup and Creamy Potato soup and we ate them in a bread bowl. The best part of this party was being able to see the extended family that we don't see very often. People in attendance were Dave and Debbie Gast, Dickie and Meredith Martinez, Bob and Virgie, The Reed Arnold Family, The Brian Larson Family, Suzie (obviously...it was her house) and Courtney and Scott. It had been a very long time since I was able to visit with this extended family and I am glad that I did. It was so much fun. I love family and being able to share with them.

Monday 22nd. Aidan and I went and did some very last minute shopping for Brian. Then we had lunch with Jen and Judd Gardner. We ate at the Cafe Rio. Yum! Some of these may be repetitous accounts of events but some are from the POV of Aidan and some are from my POV. (POV...point of view). Then we returned home and attempted to begin cleaning the house.

Tuesday 23rd. Continued to clean and get ready for the holiday. At 530 PM we headed over to Aunt Suzie's house to anxiously await the arrival of Aunt Jordan and Uncle Harrison. Aidan was on pins and needles all day long because he was so excited (okay I was excited but Aidan felt my excitement). When they finally arrived it was such a relief. We hurried and finished getting Suzie's house ready for guests. Brian attempted to fix the futon. But it has seen its last moments as a bed. We had Wendy's for dinner. I used to live off of fast food, but since I started cooking on a more regular basis nothing is better than my food. Fast food has lost its appeal.

Wednesday 24th. Harrison and Jordan came over to help me haul stuff out to the car for Christmas. I was able to finish some of my baking. Then we waited at Suzie's anxiously for the arrival of Mike and Julie (my parents). And for everyone else to get off of work. That night we had Taco Soup with some of the leftover bread bowls. We were so excited to be able to meet up with everyone, especially the Bennett's, and do a quick gift exchange for the children. Aidan loved it. Not so much the gifts but the excitement of everything around him. Maren got a baby and a stroller from Jordan and Harrison. For those of you that know my son, he loves little strollers. Maren loves them too and hates how Aidan chases after her to play with the stroller too. Maren kept giving Aidan a look and saying "No, wait" over and over again. Absolutely priceless.

Later that evening we went with the Larson clan and looked at the lights in the Ogden Park and Layton Park. This is a Larson family tradition that I think that we have adopted. Aidan loved everything about it.

Christmas Morning the 25th. We woke up beyond early. This was planned. Up at 530 AM to shower and get ready for the morning. We then headed over to Grandpa and Grandma Larson's house. We did this because Jeff works graveyards and was just getting off and needing to go to bed. We opened presents at the their house and then went and visited Grandma Wilson for a brief moment. Exchanged gifts with her. Then we left for Aunt Suzie's house. All the Larson's came over except for Courtney and Matt (they went with her family). Everyone was awake and waiting for us. Mom and Dad and Suzie were busy in the kitchen preparing breakfast. It was so good. We had hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, eggs, toast and a variety of yummy veggies to add to your eggs if you wanted. It was so good. Thanks to them for taking the time to do that for us. Then we opened presents. What an adventure. I was I would have taken a picture! A good portion of Suzie's living room was presents waiting to be opened. That took quiet a long time. Towards the end Aidan was so confused, that we had Jordan open them for him and he played with each one. It was a very busy morning. Then we went home and relaxed, everyone needed a nap. Then we dropped off a lasagna for those at Suzie's house and we headed over to dinner at the Larson's and visited with them. The original plan was to have dinner and play a game but everyone was so exhausted and nice relaxing dinner was all that we could handle. What a busy lovely day!

Friday the 26th. We woke up and went and had breakfast at the Star. Later in the day we all went shopping. If you are willing to brave the day after Christmas the sales are wonderful! I found some more clothes for Aidan...he didn't need them but the prices were so amazing I couldn't resist. But that didn't even matter cause I didn't end up buying them. Thanks mom and dad! I was able to get a Broncos hoodie for Aidan for 5 dollars! Wow! And a Star Wars shirt for 3 dollars. Too cute.

Then for dinner we were able to get a hold of Mike Hughes and he hooked us up with a good price for pizza. Thanks Mike dinner was yummy! He manages a Little Caesars Pizza joint.

Saturday the 27th. We ate lunch at Burger Bar and then headed out to Smith and Edwards...the country boy store. We wandered around for a while and found some fun stuff. Brian really wanted a machete but sometimes the wife has to lay down the law. Seriously...what in the world do we need a machete for? Silly daddy! When that was over with I took Brian home to get ready for a wedding reception and for some down time of his own. My mom and Suzie watched Aidan so that I could go out to Costco with my dad. After purchasing cheap chicken, I ran home with Aidan to get us ready to go. The reception was for one of Brian's best friends little sister. Best friend in high school. They hadn't seen each other in about three years. Jacob is married now and so is Brian. They got to meet me and Aidan. Aidan like always put on a charm and visited with everyone at the reception. Brian's family came with us. Aunt Lorraine was a bridesmaid. Everyone was able to hold Aidan and show he around to all of their friends. I was great fun for all. Then we went and ate Taco Maker for dinner. Enjoyable. Then my parents babysat so we could go to Wal-Mart and spend some money. We bought ourselves the new Diamond edition of Scrabble. I love that game. Then we visited with Suzie and my parents for just a little bit and then headed home. It was at this time that we got hit by a car. We were stopped at a street light. And the car behind us was stopped as well. And then the car behind us just jumped, like he popped the clutch. All that happened was some scratched paint on our car, no harm done. But Aidan had been asleep and had a rude awakening. A cop pulled up behind us and asked us to pull into Famous Dave's parking lot to exchange information. Thank goodness that Brian was there to do all the paper work (I was driving and probably should have been doing it but I was trying to calm Aidan down). Aidan was just startled and confused, he was fine, just wanted mommy. The officer seemed to understand. What a ridiculous situation. What a way to end the night.

Sunday the 28th. We stayed home and tried to relax. We started picking up the house again after a crazy week of toys and food and excitement. We did go and visit Grandma Wilson and the Larson's. I made Fetticini Chicken Alfredo for them and Brian took Aidan back over to there house to watch the Broncos game. I had so much to catch up on. I needed a moment. That's why I was able to do so many entries last night on the blog.

What a crazy busy week! And to top it all off I think that Aidan is trying to cut 5 more teeth. I can see the buds and he wraths with pain at night. Hopefully they will come soon!

One of the other plans that we had for this weekend that didn't work out was a trip to Boise. My dad was very sad and depressed by the fact that we wouldn't let him go. It didn't feel like a good idea. I-84 was closed due to the heavy snowing conditions throughout the holidays. My poor dad! All he wanted for Christmas was to visit with his brothers and sisters and we wouldn't let him. Hopefully one day he will forgive us. Sorry dad.

Meeting Mommy's Friend, Jeremy

This week has been a busy week. Aidan finally got a chance to meet Brian and my good friend Jeremy. Had a very important hand in helping us decide to get together and date. Jeremy has been working for the theater in North Carolina but recently came back to be closer to family. Jeremy is such an amazing friend. Aidan enjoyed meeting Uncle Jeremy and is ready to play whenever he wants to come over. :) Jeremy loves Xbox, just like Aidan.

Meeting Mommy's Friend, Jennifer G.

Last Monday Aidan got to meet my good friend Jen Gardner for the first time. Jen has been my friend since high school. She lives out of state and only gets to visit every now and again. The last time that I got to see her was on her wedding day to Judd Gardner of Idaho. That was 18 months ago! We met up for lunch at Cafe Rio...everyone's favorite place to go. Yum! After visiting and having a good lunch. Aidan decided that he wanted to play with everyone. In attendance for this meal was Jen, Judd, Jen's niece Avery and her mom Kris. He loved the time he spent with everyone. He now has a desire to play with ice whenever he sees it. That's what Aidan and Jen are playing with in the picture. Jen recently found out that she is going to be a mommy. She is due the end of June. Congrats to Jen and Judd! It is a wonderful thing to have a little one running around. We love you guys!

Grandma Wilson

We went and visited with Grandma Wilson today and we decided to take a picture of her with Aidan. Technically this is Aidan's Great Grandma Wilson. We love her so much. She spoiled little Aidan for Christmas. She got him a little hammer that makes noises as you swing it, a set of keys that make sounds, and a talking telephone. This telephone will talk to Aidan and he loves it. Grandma Wilson is so wonderful and we love her for all that she is and all that she does for us. Thank you Grandma! We love you.

Christmas eve and day....Aidan's version

Aidan and his first time in the snow. He is a little wary of what all the white stuff is. He was watching it fall from the sky in our bedroom and then when we went out in it he was confused. So I let him get a closer look. Maybe next year he will want to play in it.
Aidan playing in all the fun stuff that he got for Christmas. He is a truly spoiled little baby boy. But he was sure grateful to all the toys that he got. He even enjoyed the clothes that he got.
The Christmas loot before it got terrorized by the owner. Aidan got lots of trucks, books, clothes and mega blocks. But his very favorite gifts were his stuffed animals. He got two Elmo dolls. One that sings and one to cuddle with. He also got two stuffed Blue's. Blue from Blue's Clues. That is his favorite show to watch. I know that I shouldn't let him watch television but he loves his Elmo and Blue. His very favorite thing to watch is Moose and Zee, which is a little short cartoon before Blue starts. But I digress... Thank you to everyone for Aidan's presents. He loves all of them. He has taken everything out of his toy box about two hundred times and has inspected and played with each one.
This is what came in his stocking from Santa. He got his first toothbrush and toothpaste. He even got a coloring book and crayons and goldfishies. Aidan loves goldfish crackers. He even got bubble bath (that is what is in the oil bottle...it's from Cars the movie).
This is Aidan's first pair of Christmas pajamas. Grandma Pat and Grandpa Jeff got them for him. It was a two piece flannel set with snowmen all over it. It came with little socks/booties and that adorable bathrobe. Aidan was so happy to wear his new clothes that he was showing off for everyone. All night long we called him our little Hef. :) What a playboy!

As you can tell Aidan had a fabulous Christmas. He was able to spend a lot of time with all of his grandparents. And it can be quite a challenge when you have four sets of them! But he loves them soooo much. Thanks to everyone for such a wonderful day and weekend. We love you all.

Merry Christmas

Sorry it's late...but Merry Christmas from the Larson's.

Bronco's Baby!!

Here are some fun pictures that we took for Christmas for the Larson Grandparents. Brian is a die hard Denver Bronco's fan, as well as the rest of his family. I thought that these would be a nice gift for his family. I am so glad that they turned out so cute. I love my boys and I am glad that I have these pictures. Aidan already enjoys relaxing with dad and watching the football game. I have tried to avoid understanding football and picking a team. But after watching my two boys together I have decided that I will be a Bronco's fan as well. Here's to football...

Pictures of Aidan

These are some pictures of Aidan at 9 months old. Sorry I didn't put them up earlier. But they were part of Christmas presents for the grandparents. I hope that you enjoy them....

Happy Birthday Ethan!!

Today is my nephew's fourth birthday. I just wanted to whole world to know that I love him so much. He was the first grandchild for my parents to spoil, and he was the first to make me an Aunt. He is such a wonderful little boy. He brings such happiness to my heart. I usually smile when I think of dear Ethan. Here are some photos for sharing...

Ethan posing super cool for the camera. Thank you Kellie for sending this picture. It is beyond cute!
Ethan as Darth Vader for Halloween 2006. He was just learning to talk and it was amazing to watch him try and say the quotes from Star Wars.

We love you Ethan. Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Jacob!!!

Just wanted to take a minute to wish my sweet brother Jacob a big Happy Birthday.
These photos were taken last April when he came home from his second tour of Iraq. It was his first time meeting Aidan and Aidan instantly loved his Uncle Jacob.

Once again...Happy 24th Birthday Jacob...we love you!

Happy Birthday Maren!!

The Larson's just wanted to tell Ms. Maren Teela Happy Birthday and let the world know that we love her so much. We hope she has a good 2 nd birthday!
Sweet Maren this summer at the park...helping Aunt Katie take care of Baby Aidan...always a fabulous helper!
Maren last Christmas at Uncle Reed's. The sparkle in her eye as she looked at the lights was beautiful. Once again Maren...we love you! Have a happy birthday!

Work and School

I wanted to let everyone know the one perk of my current pretend job. I am currently not working due to the winter break/ Christmas holiday. I don't have to work for two full weeks. I am really excited for this. Normally this time of year is the worst for the theater. All the big movies are being released at the same time and so the theater would be crazy busy. I have already finished all of my Christmas shopping so I am sitting pretty and relaxed! Sweet huh!

Also just to let everyone know...I am still not a college graduate! I got A's and B's in all my classes but Logic. This was the class that I was praying for, but apparently it didn't work. I don't know what the next step is...obviously taking it again, but I don't know if it will be spring semester or summer. I am getting very frustrated with my lack of ability to logically decipher ridiculousness!

My last two days in a nutshell...a little happy and a little bummed.

Aidan's new trick...

Last week Aidan started doing this. It is so much fun to ask him questions and then have him shake his head in a response. Brian and I both agree that we love this new stage.

Larson Family Christmas Party

This is Curt, Brian's cousin's son. We became fast friends. He and I talked about snow, and gold fish crackers, and fruit snacks. They are all very yummy. He is too cute.

Getting ready to do the Christmas gift exchange. It was a lot of fun. Savannah got our gift. Savannah is Brian's cousin, she's nine. She got our gift and wouldn't let it go! A young one after my own heart. we got travel versions for Scrabble and Connect Four. Brian wanted to win it back, but once we saw Savannah's face we knew that she had one the gift fair and square and we wouldn't take it away from her.

Everyone visited after we ate dinner and finished with the gift exchange. Aidan is located in the middle of this picture. He is sitting on Aunt Elaine's lap. He didn't know

Moving update....

So a few posts back I mentioned that Brian and I are trying to get a house. That is still going. But our lease is up next month and so we have been looking for a new place to rent until we get a house. Well through much thought and prayer we have decided (she asked us and we are grateful!) we are moving in with Aunt Suzie. I thought that Brian would be against the idea when I brought it up, but he is totally ready and willing. He loves Aunt Suzie. He has already been talking with her about what kind of a "honey do list" there will be. The main kicker to that is that he is telling her of things that he can do to help. Things that I didn't think of, and I am sure that she didn't think of them. He is such a sweet heart! So we will be basement dwellers for the end of the winter and the first of the spring. Super fun times are coming!

Family Home Evening

On Monday we had FHE at Suzie's house. Bob and Virgie, Suzie, us, and Brian's mom and dad and two sisters came over to participate. We had Jeff, Brian's dad read about the birth of Christ and its history. Then we did the activity known as the White Stocking. Fun times. I have been meaning to do it for years and finally got a hold of a wonderful husband and family that would play with me. Then for the activity we made hard candy ornaments. I watched the food network on Saturday and saw this super fun, very easy family activity. (For more info...check the Armga recipes blog...) Well needless to say they didn't work out all the way, but it sure was fun trying to get them to work. Brian and I are going to try some tricks at home and then maybe next year we can have a successful ornament making night! Thanks to everyone for coming it was sure fun.

Sick!!

I can't believe it has been almost a whole week since I took the time to blog. But I did get sick. I don't know what happened but I felt horrible. The last time I remembered getting sick was in October of 2002. Yeah! It's been that long. I laid in bed as long as I could on Friday. Brian stayed home from work to helped watch the child. What a sweetheart! But then I determined that I felt fine and we ran some errands only for me to feel completely drained and lethargic about two hours later. So back to bed I went. I think that it finally has left my body. So now I will be back to blogging as often as I can.

My Super Big Boy

So I just realized that I haven't told the world the good news. Aidan Brian is a walking man! He started yesterday, baby steps, like one or two. Today he has gone up to twenty three continuous steps. I consider that to be a walking man. He still sometimes prefers the quicker, more confident mode of transportation which is crawling or being carried. But I think that it is wonderful and amazing. People have told me that once they take the first steps they just take off....and it is so true.

The other fun thing is that tooth number two just broke the surface. I would take pictures of it but Aidan has been very shy when it comes to mom trying to look into his mouth. I am so proud of my sweet baby boy. Maybe the next time he sees you he will walk on over and say "Hey buddy what's up?" Okay maybe just walk over to you. He still doesn't say much. :)

Finals....

One more stupid final to go and this is the one that I am scared of the most. I have determined that if I had to take philosophy classes earlier in my academic life...I would have dropped out a long time ago. But now my pride has the better of me and everything is riding on this lame class. I am going tomorrow afternoon to take it. Please everyone, pray for me. Because that is the only way this is going to work out.

An American Flag

I have often wondered why I am so interested in history and government. Why does a young girl develop a love of all things military? I have often thought of this and I have a few thoughts as to why I love my nation, military and especially those who fought for both, those who are veterans.

Growing up within a three mile radius of Hill Air Force Base is probably a good start. As a child I would love it when I was allowed to go out with dad and watch the jets take off and land. There was this little area that was a frequent spot for those who liked to watch the planes. On occasion dad and I would go and just sit, for what felt like hours, and talk. We would then both get excited about the sounds that could be heard from miles around. In our excitement we would jump out of the station wagon and look to the sky. There is nothing more amazing than to see the descent of an F-16’s landing gear. But then to see and hear the landing gear touch the landing strip was phenomenal. Sometimes if the wind was blowing just so, you could smell the rubber hitting the pavement. It was awesome. My dad would sometimes get information about special planes coming to visit HAFB and we would go and specifically watch for their arrival. I remember waiting to see Air Force One (though it wasn’t technically Air Force One, President Clinton was in Jackson Hole, and without a President on board it loses it call sign), F-117, B-2 Stealth Bomber. Watching the Stealth Bomber come in was freaking the coolest thing I have ever seen. I could hear it coming, but couldn’t see it until it was landing! It looked like a speck of dust, black kite, or super fast bird.

Or maybe it was the frequent trips to the Hill Aerospace Museum. My Grandpa Arnold was constantly volunteering his time and efforts to the museum. It was beautiful. He would tell of us of a new airplane coming in and we would go and watch its arrival. A plane is such a majestic piece of machinery, and then to think that all the planes at the museum have a special history is baffling to me. Once I got my license I would often go alone, or with a sibling, and just walk around the grounds of the museum. Many people don’t understand why I would do that. Many have questioned how often do the planes and the stories change? That’s not the reason why I would go. I would imagine what special thing each one was used for. What finally prompted them to be placed in a museum? Did you know that one of Lady Bird Johnson’s personal airplanes are on the grounds up there? One Saturday I was able to sit inside the plane and tell observers of the planes history. To sit in the plane and smell the smells, imagine what meetings and decisions were made in there were mind boggling!

But all in all I think that the main reason why I have such a strong love for my nation and all of its symbols of freedom came by accident.

I don’t know how old I was but I would assume five or so because the story takes place in Jerome, Idaho. Poppie and Grandma Armga lived in the most amazing house, it had so many doors!

I was outside playing in the enormous backyard with my siblings and cousins. I ran around the side of the house closest to the fields, to find my father and grandfather. They were talking about something that was going over my head. But I stopped to watch them interact with each other. Then they walked to the garage and grabbed a trash can lid and walked to the driveway. I followed, curious as to what they would be doing with a trash can lid. It was then that my father laid the lid on the ground and Poppie laid a battered and torn American Flag on the lid. I watched as he lit a match. I watched as both my father and grandfather stood in silence as they watched it burn. Confused, so confused. I was always told by my other grandfather that the American flag should NEVER touch the dirty ground, it should be hung up honorably and correctly. I looked at my father for some help. Why would Poppy burn such a thing that Grandpa Arnold thought so highly of? I then looked at Poppy, who had a tear in his eye. He looked as though he was in a trance. My staring must have interrupted his train of thought because he looked at me. He asked what was wrong. I told him he was not being very nice to that flag. They should never be anywhere near the ground. He chuckled a bit and said that I was correct. He also went on to say that when a flag is old and tattered and torn, instead of just throwing it in the trash one should respect the flag and burn it, ceremoniously. My father agreed with him. I wanted to know so much more, ask so many other questions. But my father said to respect the flag, stand quietly and think about what it stands for. Poppie then told me that the flag meant so much to him that he believed that we should honor it and all of its symbolism with absolute reverence.

Later on in my life, as I have studied history, I have gained a huge amount of respect for the American flag and all of its meanings. I know that even I do not do enough to honor the flag, America and veterans. But I try. I feel my heart swell whenever I see a flag at the opening of a ball game, or a parade, or in a textbook.

I have had the opportunity to go to Washington D.C. on two separate occasions. The first time I was able to see the original Star Spangled Banner being restored, the original Star Spangled Banner. I remember standing on the landing crying at the majesty of such a symbol. I remember crying harder when a Veteran of WWII approached me and said thank you. He said that he was annoyed by those walking around ignoring such an exhibit. He said that my reverence showed that I had been taught well about the beauty of such a symbol.

The second time I went to D.C. I was able to see what is called the Pentagon Flag. This flag is the one that was hung on the Pentagon immediately following the attacks on September 11, 2001. I had to sit down so as to help contain my emotions.

The flag may have been fabric sewn together by Betsy Ross. But it means so much.

Thank you to all those who have served and are serving our nation. Thank you to those who have defended me and have used the flag as a symbol of hope and love and sacrifice. Because of this love I have for the American flag, don’t be alarmed if I have odd views on how a flag should be treated. I am a fruity fruit cake when I feel that those around me do not honor and pay respects appropriately.

Christmas Get To Know You

Tag: Christmas edition of getting to know your friends
Welcome to the Christmas edition of getting to know your friends. Okay, here's what you're supposed to do, and try not to be a scrooge!!! Just copy this entire post and paste into a new post. Change all the answers so that they apply to you. Remember.. 'Tis the season to be NICE!

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? I don't mind unwrapping presents but I hate to do the wrapping. I need to prepare myself for weeks to do such a task. I think its the tape issue. :)
2. Real tree or artificial? Love real trees, hate the falling needles. My mother tortured me with her need to vacuum them up every 12 seconds...I swear it! But artificial is nice.
3. When do you put up the tree? This year I wanted to do it the week before Halloween, but Brian said no. I promised to do it the day after Thanksgiving and never beg for another date ever again.
4. When do you take the tree down? Christmas day afternoon. Enough is enough.
5. Do you like Eggnog? The one time I tried it I gagged. So no, I am not a big fan.
6. Favorite gift received as a child? Don't know if you could call it my favorite, but it is the one that I learned the most from. My mini boom box. A couple of months before Christmas I found a receipt and knew it was mine. Why be good anymore? Well on Christmas morning it wasn't there. Apparently it was purchased for me but was returned. I instead received a wonderfully functional infants radio. I cried all day. Just before bed, my parents took me to there room and had a little talk with me about surprises, Christmas, and thankfulness. I will never forget that Christmas....and I did get the boom box.
7. Do you have a nativity scene? My mom is letting me borrow hers. Probably the most coveted Nativity Scene I have ever seen. I have wanted it for years. And it is beautifully placed in my house, usually all year round.
8. Hardest person to buy for? Brian, he buys what he wants and his birthday is one month before Christmas
9. Easiest person to buy for? This year Aidan, my sweet Aidan. But usually Grandpa Bob
10. Mail or email Christmas cards? I enjoy both. I have never done either. But I like the idea of blog cards
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? I honestly can't think of anything.
12. Favorite Christmas movie? The cartoon, Boris Karloff version of Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas followed by It's a Wonderful Life and A Christmas Story
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas? This year March. I am all done shopping! I was nervous because I knew that I would be quitting my job in October and wanted to make sure that everyone got presents.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? I don't think so.
15. Favorite things to eat at Christmas? Oh this list is endless. Cheesballs and crackers at the Lincoln's. Mom's Zucchini Bread, Oranges on Christmas Morning. Chocolate. Sticky Chex mix.
16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? Colored
17. Favorite Christmas song? Anything on the first Harry Connick Jr. Christmas album...definatly It must have been ol' Santa
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? Depends on what everyone else is doing. This year a little of both
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer? Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen, and of course Rudolph
20. Angel on top of the tree or star? Santa hat
21.Open the presents Christmas Eve or Christmas morning? One on Christmas Eve the rest Christmas morning
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year? People are absolutely horrible while shopping. They lose all concept of courtesy and necessity. Do we really need to trample people to death to save $10 on a toy?
23. Favorite ornament theme or color? I don't know. I think that they are all pretty.
24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? I feel as though Christmas dinner doesn't exist. Usually we have a brunch and munch on crap all day long. On Christmas Eve dinner is usually a big ham.
25. What do you want for Christmas this? A big happy get together at both Suzie's and Bruce's sound like a blast.
26. Who are you going to tag for this Christmas questionaire? All who read it!!!

Aidan's favorite song

Aidan loves watching Blue's Clues on demand. He especially loves the song that comes on before they start. He becomes mesmerized and very happy. I hope you all enjoy it.

Poppie and Peaches

So I have recently been spouting my mouth off. I told a friend that to dwell on the negative is good, but don't let it consume you. If you need vent and release. Do so. But never forget the good or the events that have made you who you are. A unique Child of God. Sometimes I think to say that is crap, but it is truth. The Lord blesses us with events in our lives. Nothing is on accident. Everything has a purpose. You may not understand what it is that you need to understand and learn but in due time you will, if you care to look for meaning.

I wrote this story about three years ago. It was supposed to be just for me. I may have said somethings that others won't like or agree with, but it is mine, sorry if it offends you. I feel that now I am ready to share it....thanks Debbie!

Poppie was a scary man. Especially to me, a young woman who rarely saw him. As a young woman, I was very quiet and observant. I was always aware of my surroundings and questioning what I didn’t understand. One of my few memories of my grandfather, is one that has bought about different meanings.

My parents were never the ideal parents. Even if you were to ask them they would agree. Their methods were to say the least, unorthodox. Growing up in a predominantly Latter Day Saint community, and being a faithful stalwart Latter Day Saint child, you would think that the ideals and morals taught in the church would have been fervently enforced in my household, not so. Both of my parents had previously lived colorful lives prior to their courtship. Some of their early life experiences are easily attributed to how they grew up. My father, never a conversationalist, was raised by a man who could be described as an emotionally challenged workaholic. This description comes from my own personal experiences with a man that always seemed to me to be aloof from his family.

As my family traveled to Washington state to visit with my grandparents, nothing but anguished filled my heart. I was never extremely close to these grandparents. Many would say that it was because of the miles that seperated us, I say that it was because of my grandmother’s ignorance. My mother, having come from a very colorful past, always seemed to intimidate my grandmother. I thought that my mother, with all of her life experiences and conviction, intimidated everyone. She always managed to carry herself with an attitude that said “I am strong, I have seen a lot, and I would be more than willing to help you work your way through life and all of its lessons it if necessary, but I will not prevent you from experiencing them.” My grandmother, I am sure lived a life not free from heartache and pain and life lessons, but was not one to admit them to anyone. My mother was so strong that she would not allow anyone to make her feel differenly about herself than she always felt. My grandmother and my mother never outwardly fought but I could tell that they butted heads. The older I got, I could tell that they rarely saw eye to eye on anything, especially those life lessons. My grandfather on the hand, scared me to death. My mother’s father was a gentle giant. My father’s father was a quiet, cold, condeming man; at least in the eyes of a twelve year old girl.

As we arrived at my grandparents house, my heart sunk. We were in Washington to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. I never understood how a woman that talked so much was able to celebrate such a milestone with a man that never seemed to show emotion, especially love. Amidst all of the activities that were planned for the grandchildren, I was constantly babysitting cousins and siblings. One day I was babysitting so many different cousins, that the adults forgot to feed the babysitter. I was dropped off at my grandparents to shower and prepare myself and my siblings for another celebration party. I was not excited. I was the daughter of the quiet son and the outcast, I was not the grandchild that would ever be praised or noticed. As the adults were preparing to leave, my father told me to get going on preparing my siblings for departure and feed myself quickly. He said that there was plenty of food in the storage. After they left and I got the siblings going on showers and hair, I went to the kitchen to look for food in the “storage.” The what? I had no idea what he was referring to. I did not live at this house, nor did I know the house. My knowledge of the house had amounted to about fifteen hours, most of which was spent sleeping.

As I looked around the kitchen, scared to actually open any cupboards, a voice very eerie came up behind me. “ What are you looking for, Katie?” It was Poppie, my scary grandfather. “My dad told me to get something to eat from the storage. I haven’t ate anything today.” I replied scared out of my wits. I am sure that I had heard his voice before, but prior to that moment I don’t ever remember it. He was a man of little words. He never spoke frivously. Without replying he went to the garage door and opened it. He then took a step back and motioned for me to enter. I did as I was told, ever the obedient child. Upon walking through the doorway I noticed nothing unassuming. My grandfather, or Poppie, followed me through the doorway and turned a light on. As soon as the lights came on they engulfed the large garage. I noticed what was meant by storage. It looked as though my grandparents had their own little grocery store in there garage.

Perfectly designed shelves were lining the three available sides of the garage. My other grandfather had tools and other knick knacks in his car port. This garage was overwhelming to look at. As I looked around, in awe and confusion, grandpa said that this was the storage, I could have whatever I wanted. As I tried to look at all the food, I could not help but wonder why two old people had so much canned food, and my family of six had so little? It never made sense to my twelve year old mind. But being twelve years old I had no idea what to choose. A child in a candy store is the best way to describe how my eyes must have been. Scanning all the items. Finally I looked back and noticed that Poppie was right behind me, watching me like a hawk. Nervous, because I knew that he should be out with the other adults, and he was probably watching me because of a mutual apprehension for each other, I hurriedly turned around and grabbed the first can I could, a can of peaches. There was an abundance of everything, but the peaches had but a few cans left.

Fearful for the watching eye of my grandfather or the boogey that always lurked in foreign garages, I hurried back into the house. Poppie, without speaking, went to a drawer and handed me a can opener, a spoon, and then found me a bowl. I then opened the peaches, and went to the table to eat them. While eating them, I felt eyes watching me. I thought that Poppie had left, I heard a door open and then shut. Finally, I turned around and noticed Poppie watching me eat. Confused and scared, I quickly finished and hurried back to my brothers fighting in the bedroom. Poppie watched me the whole time.

The rest of the evening, I spent trying to understand what had happened. So much and yet so little.

The next day I was asked to go out to the storage and grab some tuna fish for lunch. When I went out there, I noticed that the peaches had been restocked and that on the floor of the garage was two cases of peaches. The same size can and brand that I ate the day before. Confused as I entered the house, I became scared and upset again. I did not know why he had told me to choose whatever I wanted and yet when one was choosen he had felt the need to replace them so quickly. Not only replace them he was scared to have them taken again, so he bought more than he or grandma could have ever possibly eaten or needed.

Now that I am older I understand what truly happened that day. It has taken years of thought and understanding, but I think that I have finally come to a conclusion. Even though he was my grandfather and, I, his granddaughter, we were strangers to one another. He grew up in a time that required sacrifice and strength. The depression era was hard on everyone, not just the parents that could not find work. The children experienced hardships, just as the adults. The idea of innocence in children, is a myth. If the parents are learned, so will the children be. If the parents are workers, so will the children be workers. If the parents struggle and have a want, so will the children. My grandfather lived through the great depression of the thirties. He learned to work hard and do what was necessary to support his family. One thing that I am sure he lacked growing up with was the ability to eat what he wanted to, when he wanted it. If he wanted ice cream, he probably was denied ice cream due to its lack of necessity. My grandfather had eight children. Eight is a lot, no matter wealthy or prepared you are to have them. My grandfather worked hard his whole life. I think that when he saw his granddaughter in his garage looking at all of the canned goods like a child in a candy store, he was taken back to all the times that he wanted ice cream and was denied. I think that his desire to prove that he had spent some time with his strange granddaughter and that he knew something about her was evident. Of all the things in the candy store, I choose peaches. And he wanting to prove that he understood both me and what I wanted, he bought as many peaches as he could. Even though at the time I thought it to be a mean gesture, did he really think that I would eat all the cans of peaches that he had? Now I understand what he was trying to do. He was trying to show his love for me and what I wanted. Even though few words were spoken, this remains to be the greatest memory of my grandfather that I have. And he must have known what he was doing. Even now, whether I have been walking past fresh peaches at the produce stand in Chile or notice a random can of peaches, I always think of Poppie and that day. Poppie and peaches will always have a strange but secure place in my heart.

Boise....here we come.

So I was trying to keep everything quiet until I could get some details worked out, but if my mom is stating out loud and in print that she is planning on going to Boise, I will too. Boise, here we come. Due to the holidays we will be broke, but we want to go and visit family. This just means that I am continually spoiled by all around me. A road trip, a bedroom set, family and time for visits.... Oh my! Can't wait to see everyone the day after Thanksgiving. Yippie!

The Home Stretch...

Tomorrow is my last day of school. Hopefully for a long time. I have two papers still left to write and four finals to take. I am really only worried about one final and one paper. I am feeling the stress of the end of the semester. I have worked hard for this potential degree that is coming. I say potential because that test I was worried about is for the class that decides my academic fate. I am not sure how my teacher is grading our work. So I don't have a clue as to how bad or good I have been doing in his class. My only hope for this class is that the teacher said that he grades according to the scale. Whatever that is. Brian said that for me, the scale is the best way to go. It is supposed to help with pass/fail ratios. So if my whole class feels the way that I do, I might be fine. Otherwise, I will be attending Deductive Logic next semester. I got Virgie to tend Aidan for my this afternoon so that I can punch out at least one paper, hopefully two in the next couple of hours.

But I was going to wait to show everyone but I can' t resist. Brian and I have been looking for a bedroom set for about 9 months now. We narrowed our choices down to two. Both of them were in the $1500.00-$2000.00 range for 6 pieces. Expensive huh! That is why we hadn't bought anything yet. Just bidding our time watching sales, etc. Well on Monday R.C. Willey had a sale. Our number two choice went on sale. Brian and I ran and snatched it up! We got 7 pieces for about $850.00. That's right you heard me 7 pieces or $850.00 and that includes delivery and insurance on the delivery! We got a headboard, footboard, rails, two nightstands, a dresser (the long one) and the mirror for that price. It is to be delivered this Saturday. I really feel spoiled. But it is true patience is best especially when you manage to save about a grand! I am really happy about this purchase. I usually have buyer's remorse whenever I make big purchases, but not this one! Isn't it cute! Not too girly and not too manly. Just divine!

Temple Square Lights

Tonight was so much fun! The Larson's decided a couple of weeks ago to get together and ride the FrontRunner ( the new train) into Salt Lake and go look at the lights around Temple Square. So Brian and I decided to go. We didn't ride the train (too expensive and too big of a hassle with the stroller). But we met Ann at the JSMB (Joseph Smith Memorial Building) and visited until the others arrived via Trax. Then we headed out into the chilly night for a night of lights and music. I love Temple Square. I especially love that it wasn't too cold for Aidan and it wasn't super crowded like it normally is this time of year. The only down side was that it was activity night for the YW/YM. Lots of energetic little teenagers.

This is me trying to take pictures with my silly camera. I tried to take them like how Don Woods does, but I can't. At least not with my silly camera. Dear Santa, I want a digital SLR with lots of lenses. ;)

The beautiful Temple. Brian has agreed to let me take him in there sometime soon. Always a beautiful building.

Then after our little jaunt around the temple grounds we all took Trax to the Gateway Shopping Area and had dinner. Applebee's. I love the oriental chicken salad. Yummy.

I enjoyed every minute of the night. Being with my in-laws is such a blessing. I love them so much. Aidan was such a good boy. I put him in his Ralphie Coat, which he hates! I call it the Ralphie Coat because it reminds me of the little boy in A Christmas Story when he gets all bundled up for school and then the bullies tip him over and he can't get up.... and he shouts "Ralphie! Ralphie, I can't get up!" This coat is so big that when Aidan loses his balance and tips over he can't get back up. I can see him screaming for Ralphie every time he falls. I laugh so hard every time. If you don't understand what I am taking about I highly recommend watching the movie this Christmas. TBS runs a marathon of it all day the 24th and 25th.

December!!! Yippie!!!

I love December. Before I got married it was just okay. Now I have a rush of Christmas spirit and I think that Brian is going to go crazy. All the Christmas decorations are up. 98% of Christmas shopping is done (all of mine is done!). And now we just get to wait for Santa to come and visit us. I am more excited than Aidan! I just found out that now there is a much greater possibility that my family from the South is coming up. What a fantastic Christmas present! I thought I would be okay with not seeing them, but my heart nearly burst with child-like excitement at the news. I hope that through this blog, pictures, scrapbooking and traditions Aidan's first Christmas season can be wonderful....hopefully with lots of snow! I love December!

Aidan and Santa's Helper (Grandpa)

Grandpa showing Aidan that he is just a helper.

A little distraction always helps.

I love Santa!

So Brian and I went to see how to do this sitting on Santa's lap thing at the mall and holy joke! I am a brat I know. But the lines at the mall are a joke, the cost of pictures on Santa's lap are outrageous. So I was venting to Grandpa and Grandma and come to find out Grandpa still had his costume from when he would be a Santa's helper. The pictures aren't as professional as the mall's but hey, Aidan got to sit on Santa's lap and I am not broke. Maybe when he gets older and makes a fuss about telling Santa's helper what he wants for Christmas I will open my wallet and let the moths out. Plus, I think that Grandpa enjoyed being Santa, even if it was for five minutes.

Just make it happen

So I should have taken Stephanie's advice a little while ago and just followed my gut. In my defense, I know when the Holy Ghost is giving me a strong prompting to say something, but sometimes I just don't get a clear signal. Its my fault, I know. I allowed my life to be cluttered and unorganized. Tonight I vow to get my house in order and be a better mother and wife, daughter, sister, niece, and friend. I feel so bad about promptings that I have blown off. Know now that there will be no more passive Katie. From this point forward if I am told to go visit someone in the middle of the night, I will do it. So don't be surprised if I am banging on your door waking up your dog and husband. I know better.... I love you. If you feel that you need to talk to me, anyone, call me. Family and friends are my top priorities. I will be a listener for you.

O Tannenbaum...

And so it begins. Here I was thinking that I was smart by telling Brian to put the tree up high so that the young one wont be tempted. About three hours after we were finished (Aidan was asleep while we did the tree) Aidan noticed something new. He took off in full crawl mode and found the three dangling lights. He only did it the once but if he does it again we will be putting the tree on the kitchen table. :) We also have a bunch of presents that I wanted to put around the tree but decided against it. I don't want to re-wrap anything, if you know what I am saying?

Baby's First Haircut

Look closely and you can see
the hair coming over his ears.

Cousin Brandi ready to go....

Look at the finished work.
Thanks Brandi! It looks
so good.

According to my grandmother (Aidan's great grandmother) I should have waited until it was much longer to have it cut. I thought about her advice and decided that I am the mommy and it was driving me crazy! Everyone from the theater called me the haircut Nazi. I admit that I hate it when people have shaggy haircuts. I don't mind long hair, but I hate having to watch someone grow their hair out. Especially if they don't keep it well groomed. Washing your hair to fling it around so that it is out of your eyes is not well groomed, in my opinion. When I would wash Aidan's hair it would go down past his little neck and lay on his back. Gross! I love short hair. I love men who part their hair. I love men would do their hair. I want to help Aidan understand this concept early. So I asked Brandi to help me. I held Aidan while she did his hair. He never cried, he never really caused any problems. He did want to see what she was doing for the first little bit, but who wouldn't? Aidan is such a handsome looking baby. And yes, I did save what little bits I could. I think I saved a lot. Tootles until later.

Thanksgiving

The dinner table...
surrounded by family, friends and good food.

Grandpa feeding Aidan cranberries.

Aidan loved them.
Yummy!

Today was so busy and fun. We woke up around 11 AM (Aidan had another rough night) and showered and cooked the yams. Then Brian headed to his parents house to borrow a chair and Aidan and I headed to Suzie's for preparations. Gotta love Thanksgiving. You know everyone loves each other. You know everyone wants everything to be tasty and perfect. And you know there will be raised voices and arguments. I personally find it funny and entertaining, but then again, I ain't the one yelling or being yelled at. :) The meal was delicious. We had turkey, mashed potatoes, funeral potatoes, cranberries, stuffing, yams, green bean casserole, rolls, deviled eggs, olives, celery sticks with pimento cheese spread, gravy, and corn. I think that was everything. After eating and then cleaning up. Everyone just kinda hung out and visited. Everyone who came to dinner was Katie, Brian and Aidan, Bob and Virgie, Suzie, Brandi, Tim, Kristen, Charlie, and Andrew and my personal favorite guest...Daddy Kenny. Kenny is my good friend Jeremy's dad. We love spending time with both of them, but Jeremy moved to North Carolina for a spell so Aunt Suzie has been doing a good job of keeping in contact with Kenny. I love it when he comes to visit us. I think he thinks we are crazy, but we are! And Jeremy is coming home in life three weeks and his dad is over the moon excited! Some of the games that everyone played was Scrabble, bowling on the Wii (Virgie played and it was so cute!) and air hockey. That's right! Uncle Reed was able to get a hold of an air hockey table for Suzie and it is so much fun! Then we went and visited with Brian's family. I love them so much. I enjoy just visiting with them. We stopped by and visited with Grandma Wilson and chatted with the Mike Wilson family. We chatted and watched the Cardinals get there butts kicked by the Eagles. Ate pie...yummy. And then we came home. When we came home I couldn't resist. I dug out the Christmas stuff and played around all night. Before I had a family, Christmas was fun but now it is SOOO exciting. This will be Aidan's first..... So much fun. Then we went to bed. Thanks to all who helped to make Thanksgiving so fantastic! We love you!

My Thoughts on Twilight

Let me begin by saying that I enjoyed the books. I thought that they were fluffy vampires and very light relaxing reading. I am used to constantly reading history textbooks so to be able to read something so nice and flowing was wonderful. I don't think that I have a team that I go for. I am neither team Jacob or team Edward. They both would be good choices for Bella. My in-laws were followers of the books years ago. And during my pregnancy I was reading everything I could get my hands on. They constantly raved about these books so I borrowed them. I think that I read three of them in a week. They were good. Not pulitzer prize winners, but good all the same.

Then I heard that they were making the book into a movie. I have never been impressed by this concept but by all means try. Then they announced who they got to play Edward. I like everyone else was baffled and confused. He didn't even look like the descriptions of Edward to me. So for a year I have been skeptical to say the least. I knew I would see the movie, more out of peer pressure than anything else.

Brian, Aidan and I, amongst many many friends and family, went and saw the midnight showing.
Honestly, the movie isn't going to be winning any academy awards but it was good. I was super impressed. Maybe my going into the movie expecting nothing helped it lived up to expectations. Robert Pattinson did well. You could almost feel the pressure he was feeling from how he portrayed the character. He is a good actor. He is still young and could learn a lot but all in all it was good. I even want to see it again! I am excited for a bigger budget and more time for Robert to figure out Edward in the second and third installments. And on a side note Kristin Stewart made me a bit nervous too, but she was also a good pick. Good job cast of Twilight! You made me a believer and follower! I know deep down they needed to hear that from me, Katie Larson. :)

Playing at the park

I love that I can spend time with the Bennett's. They frequent the park and invite us often. Aidan loves the park. The other day we went and played briefly at a park in Roy and then ran errands with them and just hung out before I had to go to work. Aidan enjoys playing with other little people as much as I love to see my family. Thanks Bennett's! Let's play more often.

Babysitting the cute ones...

One of my new favorite things to do is spend time with my nephew and niece. I always wanted to before but my schedule was a joke. Can't you see me making this phone call. "Hi Kellie, I was curious if I could babysit/ play with your kids later on. Yes. Awesome. Can I come and get them after 10 PM on Tuesday? We can play all night. I will be up. What? Your kids go to sleep? Oh... they are normal children. They have bed times. Okay well maybe another day." I never did that because it is ludacris (holla!). So I take any possible opportunity to spend time with them. Aidan loves them too. He just loves to play with Maren (though she may see it as more of a torment). He loves to copy Ethan. Aidan wants to be a big boy already and do all the cool things that Ethan does. Climb up on the couch by himself, walk, jump, somersaults, etc.

On Monday I got the chance to sit with them. We watched television, played on the computer, took baths, ate dinner, and made turkeys. Hand turkeys. Remember the silly fun ones you did as a child? Those ones. The artwork is displayed proudly on my wall for all to see.

Aidan enjoying his crayon.

Ethan and Maren and lots of crayons.

Aidan copying what Ethan was doing.

The Thanksgiving wall.
All of the artwork is displayed.
My turkey.

Aidan's turkey
Maren's turkey
Ethan's turkey. I know that it is hard to
see but beyond the picture, I love that
he signed his own name!
Well, he likes to write the letter E over and
over again. Look closely to the bottom of the page.
You can see three E's connected and
laying on there side. Awesome huh!
